“HakJak is Dead, Long Live HakJak!”
Last year, HakJak Studios was unexpectedly shut down by our parent company just before the Holidays. Pigeon Simulator was cancelled, and the dreams of myself and 16 other creatives instantly vanished.
This was a devastating blow.
The gaming industry is plagued with similar stories of reckless business decisions that are destroying our industry, our games, and the lives of hard-working creators.
It’s time for change.
Collectively, individual creators and exemplary studios can make a real difference by focusing on building great games, practicing sustainable growth, and prioritizing humanity and art over greed and short-term gains.
After all, even a solo developer can produce games that outperform AAA mega-studios and shift market/attention share.
I want to be a force of positive change in the gaming industry.
This year, I am returning to solo indie game development as simply “HakJak” — I am also seeking new opportunities where I can make a real, positive difference in our industry.
Whether I am working alone, collaborating with others, or managing a large studio, my goal is to lead by example and do whatever I can to facilitate positive changes for our industry, individual creators, and ultimately the quality entertainment we get to enjoy.
I’m starting over with a new perspective, refreshed branding, and new ways of doing everything, based on all I’ve learned over the past several years.
My mission is to make real connections with people passionate about games like you, fearlessly explore new project concepts together, and bring our favorites to life in the best ways possible.
To everyone who has followed my journey thus far, I extend my heartfelt gratitude. If this message resonates with you or would inspire someone else, please share it.
Let’s make 2024 a year of new beginnings and remarkable creations!
Sincerely,
